Things to do
'Visit Brummen' has all the information you need for walks, cycle rides and restaurants etc and for a wonderful and adventurous stay in and around Brummen
Beautiful Zutphen, one of the Hanseatic cities. It is a small cosy country town.
When there is a lot of rain here and in Germany the Ijssel river floods, this happens quite regularly in the winter, it is a spectacular sight
The old walls of Zutphen and the Walburgis church, which is now used for concerts, exhibitions and activities
Visit the Museum Zutphen. There are two museums under one roof here, the Stedelijk Museum and Museum Henriette Polak
Zutphen has some classy and individual shops, this is one of my favorites, it's window changes wonderfully with the seasons, as seen in the next photo. I can't resist adding their website!
Here is a link to some of the more unique shops, little gems in hidden streets!
Deventer, also one of the Hanseatic cities. Bigger than Zutphen and equally as lovely.
One can park free on the other side of the Ijssel and take a little ferry over to the other side, worth doing as Deventer's parking is very expensive.
Take a ride in the past. What a great activity, the children will love it too ooooooooooot !!!
Pay a visit to the Open Lucht (air) Museum near Arnhem and see how things were done in the good old days
There is a butterfly garden Zutphen, check out the times as they are not regularly open.
How about visiting The Middelste Museum, it is the only still working paper mill in the Netherlands that produces paper in an authentic way and with hydropower. Nice and close in Loenen. Take a look at what you can do, fun to make your own paper, also nice for children.
Go to Eefde, (next door to Zutphen) and spend a (rainy) morning / afternoon to join an existing group to decorate a piece of china with paint, make something with clay or whatever else Tosan has to offer. Ring Tosan at PuurGlazuur to discuss options. It's really fun to do and not difficult. I've already made these 3 things above.
Click on workshops and then "Dagjesmensen"
The Posbank and De Hoge Veluwe National Park are nearby Tonden, P.S. in July and August the roads are shut but one can still drive up to the top and walk so look at the website underneath
Adult games ! If you enjoy golf the Kasteel Engelenburg is just around the corner! Or perhaps you're wanting to celebrate something special why not book a table for dinner in the beautiful Serre.
The MIMIK is the new filmhouse in Deventer, there are films and theatre here, it is also a great place to eat
If you visit De Hoge Veluwe National Park make sure you visit the famous Kröller-Müller Museum
Bussloo is a great way to cool off in the summer and from 1 October - 1 May dogs are allowed to swim, play and walk here with all their friends.
Why not spoil yourself with a day at the wonderful Thermen Bussloo resort to take all your aches and pains away!
TIP! Hackford (Vorden) is one of my favorite places to go for lunch (or dinner) and then a walk afterwards, the surroundings are very English!
Hackford also has this amazing vegetable garden which is free to walk around (no dogs)
